Agnes G. Shaffer

February 9, 1909 — March 22, 2000

Agnes G. Shaffer, 91, a Marshall County resident most of her life, formerly of E. LaPorte St., Plymouth, died at 8:22 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in the Calhoun Convalescent Care Center, St. Matthews, South Carolina.  Four years ago Agnes had moved to the Orangeburg, South Carolina area to be near her son.

Agnes was born on February 9, 1909, in Bourbon, Ind., the daughter of Charles R. and Mabel M. Banks Thomas.  She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1927.

On January 5, 1935, in Plymouth, she married James W. “Bud” Shaffer.  Bud preceded her in death on December 20, 1995.

Agnes enjoyed everything about being a homemaker and raising their son.

She was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

Surviving her death is her son and daughter-in-law, James T. and Sarah Shaffer of Orangeburg, S.C.  Two granddaughters, Mindy Goley and Cindy Shaffer and a great-granddaughter, Devin Goley and Jared Goley a great-grandson, all of Concord, New Hampshire, survive as well.

A brother, Robert Devon and Herta Thomas of Plymouth, also survive.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Dehlia Anglin and Olive Whisman.

Friends may visit with her family on Saturday, March 25, 2000, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.  The Rev. Robert Vardaman, seniors pastor of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, will officiate.

Burial will take place in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Agnes’ name may be made to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.
