Allen Edward Reese

Allen Edward Reese, 88, was called home to the Lord on September 19, 2026 with his family by his side at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth. Born on October 19, 1937 in New Castle, IN, Allen was the son of W.T. “Tom” Reese and Mary (Gann) Reese.

After graduating from New Castle High School in 1956, Allen began his career in retail, where he met his future wife, Doris Kauffman. They married on May 25, 1958, in Goshen. Enlisting in 1962, Allen honorably served as a Medical X-Ray Tech in the United States Army.

After returning from the Army, Allen worked at a drug store in Columbia City where he met George Collins from Plymouth. Following his desire to be involved in healthcare, George became a mentor to Allen and he became licensed as a hearing aid dealer in 1969. A few years later, George passed away and Allen continued his care he provided to the City of Plymouth and opened Allen Reese Hearing Aid Center in 1976.

Allen was dedicated to his profession, contributing significantly to the licensing and advocacy for hearing agencies. Appointed by Gov. Bowen, he served over 30 years on the Committee of Hearing Aid Dealer Examiners (CHADE), including as chairman. He played a key role in establishing the Indiana Hearing Alliance and was active in the International Hearing Aid Society.

Allen was proud of his service as a Mason and Master of the Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge #149. He was involved with the Scottish Rite, the Order of the Eastern Star, Jaycees, and was a member of the Plymouth Kiwanis Club. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Allen later attended the Church of the Brethren.

In his free time, Allen loved to play Euchre; often trying to have the upper hand against his opponents. During football season, he would cheer on the Vikings, Colts, and whichever team was opposing the Bears.

Outside of his work, few things brought Allen greater joy than being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He treasured every opportunity to be part of their lives and was a constant presence as they grew. Whether it was a ballgame, Grandparents Day at school, or a school concert, they could count on finding Allen in the front row with a smile on his face and a video camera in hand. He taught them the importance of hard work while doing yard work together, helped teach them how to drive, and made plenty of memories along the way—including wintertime burnouts in the parking lot.

Allen was rarely without a camera, capturing photographs and videos throughout the years and preserving countless moments of his family’s life together. Family cookouts, time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the everyday moments he made special will remain treasured memories for generations to come.

Their family legacy continues on through his daughters, Elizabeth (Rodney) Noftsger of Plymouth and Christi Reese of Warsaw; his grandchildren, Brycen Himes, Matthew (Jillian) Reese, and Jordan (Kylee) Hunsberger; along with his five great-grandchildren, Chad, Emma, Parker, Salem, and Elsie, in addition to one on the way. Allen is also survived by his brother, Bob Reese.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary; beloved wife, Doris; along with 12 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 11AM-1PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Allen will be honored in a Masonic ceremony at 1PM and funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Dennis Wenzel officiating.

Allen will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth with military funeral honors being rendered by the United States Army and the American Legion Post 27.
