Aloysius J. Hahn

Aloysius J. (Lou) Hahn, 90, died of natural causes at 1:32 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2002, in the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Ind. Born on April 2, 1912 , in Chicago , Ill. , Lou was the son of Aloysius and Caroline Gollatz Hahn. He received his high school and college education at St. Joseph Seminary in Westmont, Ill. On January 29, 1944 , Lou and Elizabeth C. (Betty) Blattner were married. Betty died on August 1, 1994. Lou worked in sales for Jessop Steel for over thirty years and was office manager for the company for approximately fifteen of those thirty years. An avid traveler, Lou and Betty visited a different location every year. They wintered for over a dozen years in Winter Haven , Florida . He enjoyed many things. Stamp and coin collecting were hobbies; he also had an extensive Lionel train collection. He also was a gardener, growing vegetables and flowers. Lou was a member and past prefect of St. Anthony Fraternity of the Third Order of St. Francis. In addition, he was a founding and lifelong member of the Board of Directors of Mayslake Village in Oak Brook , Ill. He was also a past member of St. Augustine of St. Gall Catholic Churches in Chicago . Lou is survived by two daughters, a son and a daughter-in-law. They are: Sister Nora Hahn, Dernbach , Germany , Margaret A. Hahn, Donaldson , Ind. , Robert Hahn, Tinley Park , Ill. , and Clare Hahn, Oak Forrest , Ill. A brother, William L. Hahn and a sister, Ann Gaskin, both of Chicago , also survive together with three granddaughters and a grandson. They are: Sally and Brian Ziolkowski, Markham , Ill. , Sharon Hahn, Tinley Park , Ill. , Beth Hahn and Kevin Hahn, both of Oak Forest , Ill. Two great grandsons, Ryan and Kyle Ziolkowski of Markham , Ill. , survive as well. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Theresa Hahn, a daughter, a son, Kenneth Hahn, a daughter-in-law, Linda Moeller Hahn and two brothers, John and Joseph Hahn. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a special prayer service at 7 p.m. , on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 , in the Catherine Kasper Chapel and from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2002 , in the Elliston Funeral Home, 60 Grant St. Hinsdale , Ill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 31, 2002 , at 10 a.m. in Our Lady’s Chapel at Mayslake Village , 1801 35th St. , Oakbrook , Ill. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Ill. Memorial gifts in Lou’s memory may be made to the Franciscan Missionary Union , 3140 Meramec St. , St. Louis , Mo. , 63118 , or to the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, P.O. Box 1, Donaldson , Ind. , 46563 .
