Arthur Charles “Art” Welch, 85, living at 13613 W. 6C Road, Plymouth, Ind., for the past 28 years, went to be with the Lord at 3 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2006.
Art died, following an illness, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He served the community as the LaPaz Postmaster for 30 years, from 1946 until his retirement in 1976.
Born in Plymouth, Indiana, on September 14, 1920, Art was the son of Clarence and Neteth Logan Welch. He graduated from LaPaz High School.
In World War II, Art served in the Army Medical Corps.
On December 31, 1941, Art and Mary Ellen Fogel were married. Mary Ellen died on September 17, 1974.
On December 19, 1977, Art and E. Jo Korn were married.
Art attended the Plymouth Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Chris Freeman, Half Brother
Jimmy Freeman, Half Brother
Jo and by his three daughters, a step-daughter and two step-sons.
His daughters and their husbands are: Linda and Jim Green of Hereford, Penn.; Becky and Bob Mueller of LaPaz, Ind., and Denise and Dave Peters of South Bend.
His step-children are: Sue Gerencser, South Bend, Ind.; and Bill Korn of South Bend and Bob Korn of Fort Myers, Fla.
Thirteen grandchildren also survive.
A sister, Pauline Scofield of Munster, Ind., survives as well.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Ellen and a sister, Edna Hindel and two brothers, Carl and Cleo Welch.
Friends will be welcomed by the family to celebrate the life of Art Welch on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to funeral services at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. The Rev. David Kerkove, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Marshall County Post 1162 and American Legion Post 27. Memorial gifts in Art’s memory may be made to the Plymouth Church of the Brethren.
