Arthur Junior Long

April 25, 1929 - February 9, 2004

Arthur Junior Long, 74, a former Plymouth resident, living for the past 10 years at 1404 N. Wilber St., South Bend, ended a battle with cancer at 9:45 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2004, at home in the company and care of his family and St. Joseph County Hospice.
Born on April 25, 1929, he was the son of Arthur and Ollie Johnson Long. He graduated from Polk Township – Tyner High School in 1947.
He was formerly married to Mary E. Rowe and Carol J. Lotz. On May 20, 1994, in South Bend, he and Janet M. Morris were wed and enjoyed nearly ten years together.
Art first worked for the Studebaker Corp., and later was a supervisor for Pilgrim Farms in Plymouth. In 1975, he joined Irrigation Solutions of Lakeville, Ind. in the sales of farm irrigation systems.
Called a ‘workaholic,’ by his family and friends, he was capable of fixing absolutely everything. He was a Chicago Bears fan and supported Indiana University and Notre Dame athletics.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 741, Plymouth.
Art is survived by his spouse and by two daughters, three sons, and ten step-children. They are: Judy E. and Pat Fuller, Warsaw, Ind.; Sue E. Grable, Fort Wayne, Ind.; David K. Long, Hollywood, Fla.; Bryan “Sam” and Naomi Long, South Bend, Ind.; Curtis R. and Brooke Long, Plymouth, Ind.
His step-children are: Rick Conely, Jeff Stetler and Sue Sullivan, all of Plymouth, Ind.; Lisa Kern, Syracuse, Ind.; William Morris, Atlanta, Ga.; Jennifer Wright, Michael Morris, Daniel Morris, Richard Morris and Stephanie Montgomery, all of South Bend.
Thirty grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive together with four sisters. They are: Betty Geible, Sebring, Fla.; Doris Lamborn, Plymouth, Ind.; Grace Hutchinson, South Bend, Ind.; and Mary Dare, Teegarden, Ind.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James A. Long, a granddaughter, Miranda Sue Wethington and a brother, Glen Long.
Visitation and the sharing of memories with the family will be in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2004.
Funeral services for Art will take place at 7 p.m. on that same date, Thursday, February 12, 2004, in the funeral home. The Reverends Paul McBride and David Kerkove, will officiate.
Committal services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2004, in the Highland Cemetery Chapel on Portage Ave., in South Bend. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the family will be appreciated.
