B. Dean Rice

B. Dean Rice, 82, of Garfield St., Osceola, died at 2:55 pm Sunday, September 12, 2004, at the Hospice House of St. Joseph County, following a cancer related illness.

Born in Pulaski County on May 25, 1922, Dean was the son of Cecil Harold and Dora Bell Rex Rice, Sr. He attended schools in Anderson, Indiana.

Dean and Nadine O. Wallace were married on July 13, 1946, in Osceola.

An Insurance representative, Dean worked for the Western-Southern Life Insurance Company for almost ten years, then he worked for Commonwealth Insurance for many years, retiring in 1985.

An avid hunter, he enjoyed hunting rabbits and squirrels when he was younger. He enjoyed spending time on the water fishing, and loved to watch parades. An avid story teller, Dean was always good for a laugh. He loved his family, and went to as many family reunions as possible.

Dean is survived by Nadine, his wife of 58 years, a daughter, Beverly (Roger) Wood of South Bend and a son, William David Rice of Ballwin, MO. Seven grandchildren also survive: Troy (Marie) Wood of Kenmore, N.Y., Todd (Julie) Wood of South Bend, Ty (Lori) Wood of Brownsburg, IN, Joseph Rice, Bethany Rice, Anthony Rice and Chris Rice all of Missouri, along with 9 great grandchildren, a sister, Marilyn Williamson of Vista, CA, a half brother, Daniel Turpin of San Diego, CA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil Rice, Jr.

Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Johnson – Danielson Funeral Home. 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, IN.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home following visitation at 11:30 am., with Chaplain Tom Padberg of the Marshall County Hospice, officiating.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, IN.

Memorial contributions in Dean’s name may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
