Bertha Balmer

September 15, 1913 — April 7, 2002

Bertha R. Balmer, 88, a lifetime resident, died of natural causes at her home, 324 E. Franklin Ave., Plymouth, at 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2002. Born in German Twp. of Marshall County on Sept. 15, 1913, Bertha was the daughter of Peter Balmer Jr., and Marie Renas Balmer. She attended Marshall County schools. Bertha had worked in various offices in Plymouth, South Bend and Chicago. She was a stenographer for many years at the South Bend Current Controller Company. For many years, Bertha has remained close to home. She was a member of the Marshall County Humane Society. Bertha is survived by a sister-in-law, Eloise Balmer, Bourbon, two nephews; Larry W. and Marsha Balmer, Plymouth, and Walter “Dick” R. and Jill Balmer, Bremen. Also surviving are two nieces Yvonne E. Balmer and spouse, Jim Shirley, Bloomington, Ind. and Darla Kaye and Patrick Finnegan of Bemidji, Minn. along with several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Walter, Richard and LaVon Balmer and a sister Ruth Balmer. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chapel at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1 p.m. in New Oakhill Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Krieg of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial contributions in Bertha’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society.
