Beverly Joyce Sarber

August 30, 1933 — June 28, 2025

Plymouth

Beverly Joyce Sarber, 91, was taken by the Lord to dwell in her heavenly home on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Born on August 30, 1933 in their family home in Culver, Joyce was the daughter of Roy and Goldie (Kring) Overmyer.

Joyce proudly graduated from Culver High School with the Class of 1951. She went on to earn her Associate's Degree from the South Bend College of Commerce; experience that carried her through her career as the treasurer of John Glenn High School for over 25 years.

After meeting Deane Sarber on a blind date at a basketball game, they were united in marriage at the United Brethren Church in Burr Oak on December 13, 1953. Deane and Joyce raised their children, Jeff, Terri, Rod, and Daniel, with the values of placing family first. Whether it was a family tradition to kick off the new year, a snow angel after the first snow or just spending time together as a family during the holidays, family was at the heart and soul of what Joyce loved most. Growing up on a farm, Joyce learned skills that carried on throughout her life. She later continued the lifestyle in her marriage, raising pigs and chickens, and then beef cattle.

Known as the family jokester, Joyce had a competitive nature for April Fool’s Day; pranking those she loved by sewing pant legs together or smearing Vaseline on door handles. She was feisty at heart that held on through her final days. Her competitive side also shone through in her love for Indiana Hoosier Basketball.

Joyce was a talented seamstress. In her free time, she enjoyed playing Bunko and reading. She had countless memories of vacations with her sisters and nephew along with memories of precious time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who fondly remember her as “old grandma.” Joyce also looked forward to working in her garden; time that she described to her children as her therapy.

Joyce faithfully attended Tyner United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was also a longtime member of the Tyner Rebekah’s #865.

Joyce is survived by her children, Jeff (Sarah) Sarber, Terri Sarber, and Rod Sarber; grandchildren, Traci (John) Pulliam, Matthew (Erin) Sarber, Kyle (Jena) Ingle, Austin Sarber, Eric (Tosha) Sarber, Emily Sarber, and Elizabeth (Eli) Schultz; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn Kuskye, Catherine (Mike) Bennett, and Dale Overmyer; sister-in-law, Nancy Sarber and Janet Overmyer; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Goldie; husband, Deane; son, Daniel; and siblings, Betty, Irvin, and Richard.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 4-7PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Tyner United Methodist, 4501 French Street, Tyner, IN 46572 with Pastor Cathy Wesolek officiating.
