Carol R. Stailey, 60, passed away of natural causes at 12:52 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
Born in Knox, Indiana, Carol was one of two children born to Charles G. “Chuck” and Carol J. (Joseph) Surber. Her parents would move her and her brother, Greg, to Plymouth and she would graduate from Plymouth High School with the class of 1979. She then went on to attend Free Will Baptist College in Nashville, TN.
She worked as a phlebotomist in Mesa, Arizona before deciding to move back home, closer to family. Carol worked for K-Mart in Plymouth until its closing, then for Wal-Mart in South Bend as a Division Manager.
Carol had a very likeable, outgoing personality. Once you met her, her loyalty as a friend shown through. She could make a friend from a stranger, and you were a better person from knowing her. She loved cooking, crocheting blankets, animals and collecting camels and penguins. She attended the Cross Church in Rochester and helped in the food pantry often.
Carol adored her small, close family and her nephew was her favorite person. She loved spending quality time with her brother and sister-in-law.
She is survived by her loving parents, Chuck and Carol Surber of Plymouth, her brother Greg (Cindy) Surber of South Bend and her nephew, Connor Surber who is attending DePauw University.
Carol was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lester and Mayme Barnett, and paternal grandparents, William and Gladys Surber.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 11-1 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Martin Furrlow officiating.

Just Call On Me
I can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel
For the loss of someone you love.
This sorrowful time must still feel unreal
And you’re looking for strength from above.
I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease,
That your spirit will gain strength again,
And I pray that your faith will create inner peace
And that God will send blessings–Amen.
Till then, if you need me to lighten your load,
I’m waiting to come to your aid.
Just call on me, and I’ll walk down that road,
Until the dark times start to fade.
