Charles Jacob Smith

July 14, 1933 - February 7, 2011
In Memorial

Charles Jacob Smith, 77 of 12th Road Plymouth, Indiana passed away at 2:41 pm in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, Indiana. Charles was born in Harvey, Illinois on July, 14, 1933 to Carl and Frances Biernat Smith. He graduated from Thornton, High School, before serving four years in the United States Navy.
On July 10, 1954 in Hammond, Indiana Charles Smith and Virginia Kolisz were married. For over forty years Charles and his wife have been the owner/operator of the Camper’s Roost Campground, located in Marshall County.
Charles worked as a Union Pipefitter during the day and managed the duties of the campground at night.
He was a great carpenter and was a jack of all trades. Charles was also a true animal lover, having a variety of animals throughout his life. Charles will be most remembered for being a caring and loving Husband, Father and Grandpa.
His memberships included the Plymouth American Legion, VFW, and St. Michaels’ Roman Catholic Church, he was formerly a member of the Plymouth, Moose.
Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia, his children Kathleen (Mark) McClelland, Michigan City, IN, Dennis Smith, Florida, Charles M. (Georgia) Smith, Culver, IN, Charlene (nei, Jeff) McClelland, Portage, IN, and Darrin P.(Brenda) Smith, Plymouth, IN.
Along with seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving him is a sister, Patricia (Van) Stanley, California and his brother Gerald (Mary Ellen) Geniusz, of Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Smith and Frances (Biernat) Geniusz, his sister, Frances Holler, and a son-in-law, Jeff McClelland.
A time of sharing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, where a Rosary service will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 613 N. Center St., Plymouth at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011 with calling at the church one hour prior to the Mass which will be officiated by the Rev. Father William Kummer.
Military rights will be accorded to Charles following services at the church by the Plymouth American Legion, VFW, and DAV.
Memorials may be made in Charles’ memory to a charity of the donor’s choice Funeral Director – Kevin L. Russell kevin@johnson-danielson.com
