Cpl. Steven Scott Hansen

November 26, 1969 - February 20, 2006
In Memorial

Cpl. Steven Scott Hansen, formerly of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, died unexpectedly, at his residence on E. LaPorte St., Plymouth, at 10:34 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2006.
Steven was 36-years-old. As a Corporal, he had been a loyal and respected member of the Plymouth Police Department for the past nine years.
He was born the son of James L. and Joann K. Rosolik Hansen in Michigan City, Indiana, on November 26, 1969.
He graduated from New Prairie High School with the class of 1988, and earned bachelor degrees from Purdue University in history and political science and an additional degree in forensic studies from Michigan State University, He interned with the Detroit Police Department in the forensic science division and worked his entire law enforcement career with the Plymouth department.
Plymouth Police Chief Jim Cox said, “Steve was an exemplary officer. With him the job always came first. He never turned down a call from the department.” Steven served on the Pension Board and was in charge of the Evidence Room.
For the past two years, he was an instructor at Ancilla College teaching Criminal Justice and was a part-time employee for Martin’s Supermarket in security.
He enjoyed bowling and old movies, especially the Monty Python series. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and served on the Plymouth Aviation Board.
Steve was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Michigan City.
He is survived by his parents of LaPorte, Ind., and by a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah L. and Kenneth Reiter, of Plymouth and their children, Shane and Brandi Reiter and a brother and sister-in-law, James Robert and Teresa Hansen, who live in Germany with their children, James, Joshua and Jessica Hansen.
Several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends and Police brothers will greatly miss Steven.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Allen Hansen and by maternal and paternal grandparents, Seweryn and Ann Rosolik and Melvin and Ellen Hansen.
The family will welcome friends from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2006, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by the Rev. Father William Kummer, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2006, in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 615 N. Center St., Plymouth.
Burial will be in Victory Township Cemetery, Ludington, Michigan.
Memorial gifts in Steven’s memory may be sent to the LaPorte Parents & Friends Inc. sponsored Group Home, 2354 N. U.S. Hwy 35 P.O. 1657, LaPorte, Ind. 46352 or the Social & Learning Institute for the Disadvantaged, 121 W. 9th Street, Michigan City, Ind. 46360.
