Daniel R. Kizer, 69, of Lakeville, Indiana, passed away at 2:15 am Monday, June 19, 2023, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.
On July 8, 1953, Dan was born in Plymouth, Indiana to Donald and Norma (Fritz) Kizer. He graduated from LaVille High School and then graduated from Purdue University North Central with his bachelor’s degree in construction technology. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He then was united in marriage to Cynthia Bonek on March 3, 1978, in Plymouth, who survives.
Dan was very much family oriented. He loved spending his time generously, helping his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor.
Dan worked for Trinity Health as a database administrator for over 20 years, retiring early in 2017 to take care of his parents. He was a member of Timberland Bible Church, South Bend, where he was a trustee, musician, and AV tech. He was very good at giving advice with a straightforward answer. His dedication was evident as he put forth maximum effort into everything he did.
He enjoyed golf with a group of guys known as the Senior Golf Crew, cycling and volleyball. He also enjoyed yard care and was an avid motorcyclist. He loved music, especially playing the guitar, as well as playing and singing in the band at church. We will miss his vocal specials during the holidays, which is a gift he has passed on to the next generations.
Dan is also survived by three children, Nate (Tawn) Kizer, Plymouth, Adam (Danielle) Kizer, South Bend and Rachel (Tony) Joshick, Plymouth; eight grandchildren, Andie, Austin, Alivia, Alex, Chloe, Hailey, Riley, Lucas and by his brother, Dave (Kay) Kizer. He has many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sherry Nunemaker.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, Indiana with Pastor Jake Ballard officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s honor to Timberland Bible Church, 16623 State Road 23, South Bend, Indiana 46635 or to Riley Children’s Foundation, PO Box 3356, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206-3356.

Friend, colleague, golf buddy and yet so much more; Dan was genuine, patient, unassuming and kind to just about anyone he interacted with. No text or conversation went without a word about Golf (and you could always ask Dan what to do to improve). Almost anybody that knew Dan will surely miss him, as do I.
My prayers, condolences and best of thoughts and wishes to his extended family. A truly nice soul has moved on. Just fortunate to have known him for a brief period of time.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I worked with Dan at Trinity Health and he was a really great guy. We comprised the database team in South Bend and Dan was instrumental in getting me the opportunity to work there, for which I’m forever grateful. Always enjoyed his company at work, on the golf course and during our work trips to the corporate office. He always had a lot of good stories to tell and he’ll definitely be missed.
