David R. Thomas, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died at 10:38 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
The son of Charles C. and Florence I. Welborn Thomas, Dave was born in Plymouth on October 1, 1943.
Dave graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1961 and attended Manchester College for a year.
On October 4, 1963, in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, Dave and Alice J. Simmers were married. Dave had worked for Arrow Pest Control, Seyferts, Felke Florist and was still working at Hoosier Tire and doing deliveries for People’s Drug Store.
He enjoyed playing Fast Pitch Softball for many years, music and bowling, but his favorite past-time was attending the different functions his grandchildren were involved in.
An member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren for many years, he was active in the church choir and played hand bells. Dave was also a member of the Marshall County Men of Music.
Dave is survived by Alice, his wife of 47 years, three daughters: Karen (Chris) Lopez of Middlebury, IN, Kim Thomas of Fishers, IN, Krista Thomas of Irving TX; a son: David (Machelle) Thomas of Fort Wayne, IN and six grandchildren: Joshua Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Noah Thomas, Jessica Lopez, Samantha Lopez and Sydney Peoples.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert D. Thomas.
Friends are invited to visit and share memories with his family on Sunday, October 24, 2010, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N, Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to the services on Monday, October 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, officiated by the Rev. Ruth Yoder and the Rev. Joel Thomas. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts in Dave’s name may be made to the Plymouth Church of the Brethren or Camp Mack both 1130 N. Michigan St. Plymouth, Indiana 46563 or the Cancer Association of Marshall County, Inc. c/o Shirley Gidley, 9739 Sunnyside Drive, Plymouth, Indiana 46563.
