Dolores A. Long, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving sons.

She was born on August 7, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Stella (Palaski) Balke. On October 18, 1947, Dolores married Earl Long in Plymouth, Indiana. Together they shared nearly 52 years of marriage before Earl preceded her in death on October 14, 1999.

Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She found joy in simple pleasures, especially spending time with loved ones. She enjoyed playing card games, with Rummy Cue being a favorite pastime. A talented painter, Dolores was especially known for her beautiful paintings of turkey tail mushrooms. She also had a deep love for animals and delighted in collecting Christmas ornaments and bulbs.

Christmas held a special place in Dolores' heart, and decorating the family Christmas tree each year was one of her greatest joys. She loved the water, enjoyed swimming, and treasured the family's cottage on Pretty Lake, where she spent 79 wonderful summers creating lasting memories.

Dolores is lovingly remembered by her three sons: James D. Long of Plymouth; Jeff A. (Robyn Hammonds-Long) of Plymouth; and Jon S. Long of Plymouth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her brother, Richard Balke.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Long; her parents, Edward and Stella; and other family members who welcomed her home.

A celebration of Dolores' life will be held at a later date.

Dolores will be remembered for her kind heart, her artistic talent, her love of family traditions, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.
