Donald Dean Massing

December 13, 1939 - July 30, 2023

Donald Dean Massing, a cherished husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, passed away on July 30, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born on December 13, 1939, in Elkhart, Indiana, to parents Peter and Pauline Massing joining siblings Shirley, Bob, and Tom.

Throughout his life, Donald was surrounded by a loving family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marjorie Massing, who stood by his side for over six decades of marriage. Donald was a caring father to his children, Pamela (Jim) Daugherty, Darla (Brent) Creighbaum, and Rodney (Ethel) Massing. He found immense joy in the presence of his grandchildren: Chasity, Donielle, Tara, Jeana, Krista, Kevin, and Donavin. Donald’s legacy extended to ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who will forever cherish his memory.

Donald’s life was filled with meaningful events and accomplishments. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1958, setting the foundation for a successful journey ahead. In service to his country, he served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska.

Donald was an active member of his community. He was a devoted member of the Jaycees and a distinguished member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, who named him to their Indiana Hall of Fame in 2015.  An avid bowler, he was inducted into the Marshall County USBC Hall of Fame in 2022, showcasing his dedication and talent on the lanes. Additionally, he contributed significantly to the success of the Blueberry Festival as a long-time committee member.

Donald Dean Massing lived a life that touched the hearts of many. He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, ornery spirit, and unwavering love for his family and community. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us cherish memories and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 4, 2023, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. To Don’s Family: what a sad day for your family. Wish we could be there to celebrate a life well lived. And to share all the funny stories of days in the golf course. May he rest in peace.

    Marge:

I remember Don most from his Jaycee days in which my late husband, Dan, was involved. Together they made a successful team for that cause. Life is different without the individual closest to you, however we must go on living a purposeful life for other remaining.
