On Friday, February 21st 2014, Donald E. Towle passed away peacefully of natural causes. Don was comforted by his family members, around the clock, at the Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Florida, at the time of his passing. Don was 76 years old.
Don was born on January 19, 1938, to George H. and Helen (Bowen) Towle in Plymouth, Indiana. He attended West High School and graduated in 1956. Don loved all sports and especially basketball during his high school years.
Then on November 10, 1956, in Plymouth, IN, Don married his best friend and forever companion, Beverly A. Ousnamer.
After completing high school he started working with his father at The Pilot News in Plymouth. IN. Later he and Reggie Danielson went into a business partnership owning the Mayflower Tavern. Knowing that he needed to get back into the print world eventually, he and Dave Ruff purchased what is known today as Bowen Printing in 1982. After much success at Bowen Printing he and Mr. Ruff owned and operated Shopping Guide News of Fulton County until Don retired.
Don was always in a smiling great mood, honest in every action, and had a fun-loving spirit at all times with anyone he came in contact with.
In Don’s spare time he enjoyed spending time with his wonderful family and friends. Some of his fondest memories were the summer vacations with the entire family at Hilton Head. Don had great enthusiasm and passion watching and cheering on his Grandchildren at their sporting events as well. One of Don’s favorite pastimes was spent on Fountain Head and Plymouth Country Club golf courses with his friends along with their yearly trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, to play golf. Don was one of the Charter Members of the Biloxi Brotherhood of Better Ball Strikers and Pitiful Putters along with 7 of his best friends.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Beverly Towle, and their three wonderful sons, Gary (Pat) Towle of Rolling Prairie, IN, Jeff (Jodi) Towle of Ossian, IN, and Mike (Kim) Towle of Walkerton, IN. He is also survived by his 7 Grandchildren, Jennifer (Carl) Reedy, Brandon Towle, Beth Towle, Steven Towle, Sarah (Jayson) Grube, Rachel Towle and Michael Baird and his one Great Granddaughter, Olivia Reedy. Don’s sisters are, twin sister Donna Jean (Jeff) Garrison, Norma (Bill) Strickler and brother-in-laws, Jim (Carole) Ousnamer and Steve (Tracie) Ousnamer. Don is preceded in death by his parents. Don was a member of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church in the summer months and Union Church in Avon Park, FL in the winter months. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
