Donald Krause

November 23, 1937 - June 12, 2023
Donald Krause, aged 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023. He was born on November 23, 1937, in Blue Island, Illinois, the beloved son of Oscar and Mary Krause. Donald attended Thornton High School and graduated with the class of 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Military Reserve.
Throughout his career, Donald served as the Director of Public Works for several cities, including Riverdale, IL; Homewood, IL; New Buffalo, MI; and Schererville, IN. He took great pride in his work, ensuring the smooth functioning of public infrastructure.
Donald was a devoted father to his two daughters and a loving partner to Faith, his fiancé. Known for his social nature, he founded a social club called the “Sabers” during high school.  During his time in the US Army, he was drafted and became a tennis instructor, sharing his passion with officers and their spouses stationed in France. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Riverdale, IL, coached girls’ 16-inch softball, and was an Ivanhoe Park Commissioner. Donald was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing in various leagues in Michigan and Florida, and hosted annual golf tournaments at the lake.
Donald’s dedication extended beyond his professional life. He poured his heart into maintaining his property, creating his haven by the lake. He actively participated in the Donnell Lake Conservation Committee, cherishing the beauty of the lake and embracing the lake life.
Known affectionately as “Captain Don” among those who loved him, he took charge of driving boats and taught numerous people how to waterski. He was a patient coach, a true gentleman, and a warm, friendly individual who radiated affection for others. Donald was a hard worker, always striving to do the right thing for his family, friends, and community.
Donald is survived by his daughters: Michele (John Krabbenhoft) Krause of Sarasota, FL; Jennifer Krause of Midway, UT; his granddaughter, Chase Krause Jones of Midway, UT, and his fiancé, Faith Beaupre of Vandalia, MI, as well as his beloved dog, Cupcake. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Aunt Virginia Berner.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer at the Michigan Lakehouse, where friends and family can gather to honor Donald’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Donnell Lake Conservation Club, DLCC, P.O. Box 147, Vandalia, MI 49095 Or to use PayPal directly and email  “donnelllakeconservationclub@gmail.com or the Moog Center for Deaf Education, 12300 S Forty Dr, St. Louis, MO 63141.
May Donald Krause rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
