Dorothy F. Poloncak

February 24, 1932 - June 1, 2020

Dorothy Faye Poloncak, 88, passed away on Monday June 1, 2020 at the William J. Riley Residence in Munster, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Hammond, Indiana on February 24, 1932, Dorothy was the daughter of Elmo and Nancy (Geren) Dines. She graduated from Thorton Fractional High School in Calumet City, Illinois.
On July 7, Dorothy married John Poloncak in Calumet City, and there they would welcome and raise their daughters Denise and Cerise. She was a loving caregiver to family and friends. In the late 1970s, the couple bought a summer home on Lake Maxinkuckee. They made many memories and shared many laughs as a growing family. John would pass on January 20, 1989.
It was then that Dorothy officially moved to Culver. She became a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Culver. Dorothy also enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, setting out corn for the deer and feeding the cats of the neighborhood.
She is survived by her daughter, Cerise Groch of Culver; grandchildren, Jason (Stefanie) Groch of Lisle, IL, Jacob Groch of Lombard, IL, Nicole Caprio and Christopher Caprio, both of St. John, IN; and great-granddaughter, Guiliana Groch.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; her daughter, Denise Caprio; and siblings: Arthur “Bud” Dines, Jack Dines and Bette Palermo.
Family burial will take place on Friday, June 5, 2020 in the Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, with Fr. Bill Neininger officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or the Humane Society of Marshall Co, PO Box 22, Plymouth, IN 46563.
