Dorothy M. Marks, 79, 4076 Lipton St., Bremen, Ind., died of natural causes at the Lu Ann Nursing Home, Nappanee, Ind., at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2001. A longtime Marshall County resident, having grown up in Battle Creek, Mich. She was born on May 20, 1922 in Lakeview, Mich. near Battle Creek and adopted as the daughter of Harry and Alice Barrett. Dorothy graduated from Battle Creek High School. From there she attended Business School and became a secretary. On July 11, 1942, Dorothy and Glen A. Marks were married in Bryan, Ohio. Glen died on November 21, 1997. Dorothy first worked at the Lone Star Boat Company of Bremen. She was also employed at Berkey Auto Parts in Plymouth and at one time was a secretary for the Costello Auction Service. She retired in 1988 from AAA Construction, Bremen, where she assisted in disaster clean up. She bowled with several Bremen and LaPaz bowling leagues and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and doing embroidery work. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her trips to Florida. Dorothy adored cats and had a collection of ceramic felines. She was a member of the Bremen V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, # 8972. Dorothy is survived by two sons and a daughter. Her sons are Dale A. and Lyla Marks, Lake of the Woods, and Lyle D. and Sue Marks, South Bend. Her daughter is Marie S. and Dale Holderman, Bremen. Twelve grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, together with several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Nelson L. Marks, who died in 1994. Visitation with Dorothy’s family will be on Monday, August 27, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Marlin Debban, of the Trinity Assembly of God, Lakeville, where Dorothy attended services, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts in Dorothy’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
