Dorothy Marie Thomas, 87, of Plymouth passed away Friday, May 4th, 2012 in Danville, Indiana. She was born February 5, 1925 in Plymouth, Indiana, the daughter of Alton and Rose (Halt) Carothers.
Dorothy graduated from Lapaz High School with the class of 1942. She lived nearly all of her life in the Plymouth area with the exception of the past 4 years, when she and Robert lived in the Danville, IN area with their daughter Patricia.
She was a member of the Helpful Hour Friendship Club.
Dorothy worked for a short while as a bank clerk in South Bend, but soon chose the life of a farm wife and mother as her career.
She and Robert spent several years of their retirement travelling the U.S. and making friends wherever they visited. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing, puzzles, reading, and dancing. Each spring was eagerly anticipated with hunting mushrooms on her parent’s farm. Her greatest joy was watching her family members build great lives for themselves and become good citizens.
Family members and friends will greatly miss Dorothy’s loving and sincere personality.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert S. Thomas, her daughter, Patricia (Terry) Plank, Danville, IN, and her son, James (Lou Ann) Thomas of Plymouth. She also is survived by three grandsons, Sean Thomas, Wheaton, IL, Jason Thomas, Lisle, IL and Matthew Thomas of Cincinnati, OH. A sister, Betty Wade also resides in Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Carothers.
Visitation will be held in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth on Tuesday, May 8th from 4 – 8 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 9th at 10 a.m. with Peter Redmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

I am sorry for your loss. Dorothy was a wonderful person. She will remain in my memories. I remember studying with Patty at the kitchen table, and the rides on the school bus. Even the parties and the horseback riding were great events. We had lots of fun with you all. May God continue to bless
each of you.

Pat and Jimmie and families,
I\’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear Mother. She was such a nice lady. She sure put up with a lot when she would let us have parties at your house, when we were kids. I especially remember having hay rides and games. Your parents were the greatest. Always a good time and good food. She will be fondly remembered.
In sympathy,
Sally (Leed) Griggs

I am so sorry Jim and Patti to hear of your mother\’s passing. I don\’t always get through the SB paper bv Sunday, and did not hear in time to attend the funeral. I am sorry.
I moved home to help Mom with Dad and now we all care for Mom for she has Alzheimers.
Patti I was looking forward to seeing you at the All School Reunion, but I understand why you were not there. I have run into Jim at the grocery, butI haven\’t seen you for years. If you are ever up here I would love to see you both again.
