Michelle Schiefelbein Pinkston says
Dr. and Mrs. Peterson & Family,
I have so many wonderful memories of growing up with Christie! We were stuck like glue for many, many years. Every time I come back to visit my parents, I take my kids out back and show them the lane where Christie would ride up on Queenie and we would take off for the day, just talking, laughing and enjoying the outdoors. She always told me she was going to be a Veterinarian, and at one of our last class reunions, we talked and had a few good laughs about the past. I reminded her that she held true to her word, while mine of becoming a queen in a country far,far away didn\’t quite pan out! She will be greatly missed.
Love to you all,
Michelle Schiefelbein Pinkston

My prayers and thoughts are with yo on the loss of you wonderful daughter. I only knew her through her work as a vet for my pet. She was exemplary in her profession. We have been taking pets to St Francis since she opened the clinic. Dr. Peterson was always kind, caring, practical, and very smart. Her powers of observation, and common sense once saved us from a $3000 Neurology consult for a pet with an injured leg. On another occasion she correctly diagnosed Coonhound paralysis, and got our dog into Purdue the same evening. When I saw the obituary this morning and told my family, our 7 year old daughter began to cry. She touched our lives and will be missed.
Our prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

Krista Starr Darkins says
Dear Peterson Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. There is a special place in my heart for Chris. We were friends since Jr. High. I was always in awe of her many talents – she was an outstanding athlete, she could sing, play instruments, draw – really anything she tried, she could do. She was an excellent student with a strong work ethic. She would set a goal and achieve it – that was just her way.
It was after we graduated, though, that she made a huge impact on my life. She inspired me and encouraged me to explore the Catholic faith. She was a good example to those she encountered – she always saw the positive in others. I was so proud of Chris and her success as a veterinarian and as a community volunteer. I just wish we lived closer so my kids could have known her – she would have been a positive role model.
Please know you are all in my prayers. Chris will be missed by many. It gives me peace to know she is with God now.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Peterson\’s death. She was wonderful and caring as a vet, both to me and to my pets. I traveled from South Bend to Bremen as it was clear that she was gifted as a vet and a faithful person. I will light a candle at the Grotto in her memory.
Doug Morris, D.V.M. says
Christie did veterinary relief work for my wife and I at Morris Animal Hospital in Granger in the late 1990\’s. We appreciated her compassion and devotion to her work so much. Eash morning she worked for us, she had us delay the onset of client appointment time until 9 a.m. – this so so she could go to morning mass at our church, St. Pius, a block down the road. She was an incredible role model for us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Please reach out to the local veterinary community (Michiana Veterinary Medical Association) if we can be of any help with her practice. Our heart just breaks for all of you.

To the Peterson Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. I was lucky enough to live across the street from the Petersons when I started elementary school. Christie helped out and babysat me occasionally, and my dog, Doobie, used to love to go over and visit their house, too. We both loved animals, and she even took me on a few horse rides, too. I remember seeing her sing in \”Oliver\” and I was amazed at what a BIG sound came out of such a tiny person:-) My daughter, Sarah, has always said that she wants to be a vet, so when I saw Christie a few months ago, I made sure I introduced my daughter to her. She was such a wonderful lady and I think everyone out in our neighborhood has special memories of Christie. She will be missed!

Peterson Family,
I have gladly taken all of my dogs to Doc Peterson since 2002. From my little Baxter (a Pekingnese who was rescued from a farm in Nappanee) to Ibu whom she saw just several weeks ago and was able to finally draw a blood sample from his stubborn little Japanese Chin body. Doc had a tender heart, a kind spirit, a sense of humor and she even offered to help me bury one of my dogs when he finally had to be let go after a series of kidney complications. I\’ve never known a gentler vet. My pets and I are at such a loss, and will truly miss her. I cannot imagine what you are going through; however, you can be very proud that she touched the life of everyone and every animal she encountered.
God be with you always,

Dr., Mrs. Peterson, and all the Peterson\’s I met this week. I have already told those of you I how sad I am about Chris and a little more. My best memories are of us in high school and 4-H riding horses. We also became reunited years later back in Plymouth again through, church and prayer. We visited mainly at church but my daughter and I had been to her place in Plymouth and Bremen. I will never forget her unique table and her smile when I told her how interesting it was. She had a table she (over time) lit a lot of candles on and left them on the table so the top was a layer of different melted candles. Another sweet memory was one year on my birthday she gave me a wood rosary that she made. I can\’t imagine anyone who came in contact with her not coming away without a smile. Another memory was when we talked about her curly hair. There are other memories and talks to many to share. She touched so many with so many memories that she is here. Each one of us will see a reminder of her in something.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers. It is so sad to lose someone so young and we can only imagine how terrible it is for you.
May it comfort you to know that death cannot diminish the important ways Christie touched your life and the lives of others and that grief cannot take away the happiness shared and that sorrow fades away in time?.but love remains forever.
May you experience the Lord?s promise: ?Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.?
We?re enclosing a poem that, as a sailing family, we have found consoling in a time of bereavement with the hope it will be of some consolation to you.
THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker
Along the shore I spy a ship
As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.
I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she?s but a speck,
Then someone says, ?She?s gone.?
Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.
Beyond the dim horizon?s rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we?re crying, ?There she goes!?
They?re shouting, ?Here she comes!?
We?re built to cruise for but a while
upon this trackless sea
until one day we sail away
into infinity.

I just recently received the sad news of Chris\’s passing. I am deeply saddened. I worked with Chris when she was with Vale Park Animal Hospital. To the Peterson Family –
I just learned of Chris\’s passing tonight as I was reading a current veterinary journal and I was deeply saddened and shocked by the news. I was Chris\’s roommate one year during veterinary school. My first kittens were from your barn – hand picked by Chris. Maynard was a brother to her kittens Molly and Chessie (pictured along with Tucker in the photo you have at the bottom of her obituary). I remember taking the horses on a camping trip (with Toby and Tucker too!) in Northern Michigan shortly after I graduated from vet school. We had a few adventures on that trip! After Chris graduated and came to the Chicago area, we spent a lot of time together with our dogs/cats and just getting to know how to be veterinarians. I remember one New Year\’s Eve when we watched all the \”Alien\” movies! Chris was one of the attendants in my wedding in 1993. I know Chris had a strong love for all of God\’s creatures and she was also a very good friend. She spoke so highly of all of her family – you all were very dear to her. I am so, so sorry for your loss – she will be missed by many people and animals. She made the world a better place. I wish I had known sooner to be able to express my condolences to you. Please take care and know that she is watching over you all.
Mary

Dr.

We have been taking pets to St Francis since she opened the clinic. Dr. Peterson was always kind, caring, practical, and very smart. Her powers of observation, and common sense once saved us from a $3000 Neurology consult for a pet with an injured leg. On another occasion she correctly diagnosed Coonhound paralysis, and got our dog into Purdue the same evening. When I saw the obituary this morning and told my family, our 7 year old daughter began to cry. She touched our lives and will be missed.
Our prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.
I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she?s but a speck,
Then someone says, ?She?s gone.?
Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.
Beyond the dim horizon?s rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we?re crying, ?There she goes!?
They?re shouting, ?Here she comes!?
We?re built to cruise for but a while
upon this trackless sea
until one day we sail away
into infinity.

Chris was not only dedicated to caring for animals but she also was devoted to helping people too. I will always remember Chris for her dedication, determination and passion for helping all God\’s creatures. God Bless.

Mary

I was saddened to recently learn of Chris\’ passing, as were several of my classmates I have spoken with. I was a veterinary school classmate of hers at Purdue and, like Liz Block, remember her as smart, funny, and very dedicated;it\’s not surprising she touched so many people\’s lives. My family\’s thoughts and prayers, as well as those of Corpus Christi Catholic Church here in Tucson, go out to your family. God bless and take care.
