Duane W. Hurford

March 30, 1935 - April 5, 2004
In Memorial

After a courageous six month struggle against a cancer related illness, Duane W. Hurford, 69, a lifetime Plymouth resident has died.
Duane died, in the company of his family, at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at his residence, 3544 Olive Road, Plymouth.
He was a devoted family man and loved having family gatherings, especially with his children and grandchildren.
Born in Plymouth on March 30, 1935, Duane was the son of Lewis W. and Mildred E. Garl Hurford. He graduated from LaPaz High School with the class of 1953.
In 1954 to 1956 he served his country with the United States Army as a corporal on duty in Korea.
On October 18, 1957, Duane and Sandra L. Dick were married by the Rev. Moore in the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth.
After 21 years of faithful service in the maintenance department of the Plymouth B.P.C. plant, Duane retired on August 8, 2003. He had previously worked as a route driver for the Plymouth Dairy.
A farmer at heart, he tended a small Holstein herd and enjoyed tinkering in the garden and was known to be a pretty good cook.
A Past Master of the Plymouth Kilwinning Masonic Lodge No. 149 F. & A.M. and received lifetime membership in 1972.
Duane is survived by his wife, Sandy and by their two daughters, a son, 8 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They are; daughter Sherry J. and Denny Long with children, Matthew and Allison; daughter Penny L. and Jeff Krieg with children, Brandy, Landon, Elizabeth and Katelyn; son Randy W. and Dianna Hurford with children Jason and Derick, all of Plymouth. The two great grandchildren are Alan and Vanessa.
Also surviving are two brothers; Lewis Garl and Louise Hurford of Elora, Tenn., and Lowell E. and Janice Hurford of Plymouth, along with Duane’s sister-in-law Julia Hurford also of Plymouth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter; Lisa D. Hurford, nine-month-old grandson Josh Crockett and brother Frank W. Hurford.
Friends will be welcomed by the family from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, will officiate.
Interment will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Duane’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Hospice.
