Elias “Fred” Norton

Elias Fred Norton, 89, 7599 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, Indiana, a lifetime area resident, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007. Fred was born in Marshall County, on May 10, 1918, the son of Nelson and Lura Essel Reed Norton.

He was a graduate of Plymouth High School. and served in the United States Army in World War II.

On December 11, 1948, in Inwood, Indiana, Fred and Norma F. Roth were married. Norma died, after 54 years of marriage, on December 27, 2002.

Fred farmed and was a factory worker, retiring from the Young Door Company, Plymouth.

He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed talking to people and was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Plymouth.

He is survived by a son, a daughter and their families.

His son is Nelson O. “Duke” and his wife, Melody Norton of Plymouth, and their children, Brooke Enyart of Kokomo, and Micah Robertson of Plymouth.

Mary L. and Dennis Carter, Fred’s daughter and son-in-law, live in Plymouth. Their children, Caroline Carter, Freesoil, Michigan, and Michael Carter of Holland, Michigan, survive as well, along with six great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma.

Friends are invited to celebrate Fred’s life and share memories on Thursday, July 12, 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m. and after 7 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth.

Funeral services for Fred will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007. The Rev. Dr. Ronald Liechty will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Fred’s memory may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
