Ellen L. Whittaker

Ellen L. Whittaker, former lifetime LaPaz resident, passed away of natural causes at 3:31 a.m. on Monday July 4, 2016 at the Caring Junction Home in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Ellen was born in LaPaz, Indiana in her family’s country home on September 14, 1927 to Herschel and Edna B. (Welch) Hindel. She graduated from LaPaz High School with the class of 1945.

She was a hard working woman who took great pride in her family and raising her two boys, Allen and Mark. Ellen worked as a receptionist for Dr. Wackerle in LaPaz for many years until her retirement. After which, she would enjoy many group tours around the country and soon work part-time for American Dream Tours in Plymouth.

Ellen loved music and playing the piano. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in LaPaz, where she volunteered for many activities and helped teach Sunday school.

She is survived by her son Allen K. (Jeanette) Whittaker and their children, Jonathan and Kaylynn, all of Bremen and Mark L. (Nancy) Whittaker and their children, Amy and Katy, all of Lakeville. Her sisters, Phyllis (Phil) Lacy) of Ft. Wayne, Bonna Hindel of LaPaz and Donna Johnson of Tyner, also survive.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Dale Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michighan Street, Plymouth.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 in the funeral home with her brother-in-law, Pastor Phillip Lacy, officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
