Emma C. Hepler

November 17, 1916 — February 25, 2010

Emma C. Hepler, 93, a 64 year resident of 817 N. Center Street died of natural causes at her home on February 25, 2010 at 10:05 p.m.

Emma was born the daughter of Oscar W. and Nellie P. Duddleson Zechiel in Culver on November 17, 1916.

She was a graduate with the 1933 Class at Culver High School.

On June 25, 1941 Emma took Clarence F. Hepler as her husband, they first met at a dance in Plymouth. Clarence preceded her in death on May 17, 1991, less than a month before their 50th wedding anniversary.

Emma was proud to have worked at Culver Academies for 9 years as a secretary and was a wonderful homemaker. Emma was known throughout the area for her employment of nearly 25 years with the popular F. W. Bosworth Store, from 1967 until its closing and continued working in women’s fashion at Treats For Her until her retirement in 1998.

Emma was a long time member of Sunrise Chapel in Plymouth. She truly enjoyed gardening, shopping, and baking; especially apple pies. She loved her family and spending time and traveling with them, she was always there for whatever they or others might have needed. Like her leadership in the Marshall County 4H Program for over 40 years teaching many the art of mosaics. A strong minded woman; she never let her age hold her back. Like many in her generation she would tune in to the Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune on a daily basis.

Emma is survived by two daughters Joyce E. Elder of Indianapolis; and Debbie L. Haeck of Plymouth; three grandsons Nathan & Faithe Haeck of Loganville, Georgia; Andy & Lisa Haeck of Osceola; Brad Haeck of Plymouth; and two great granddaughters Anna & Emma Haeck. A sister Marcella White of Culver and brother-in-law Jack Overmyer of Pittsfield, Massachusetts survive as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Mildred Ditmire, and brothers Alvin and Zina George Zechiel.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday March 1, 2010 from 3 – 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service in the Sunrise Chapel 11802 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, Rev Rustin Krapfl will officiate.

Burial will follow in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
