Eugene W. Cook

December 10, 1930 - March 9, 2023

Eugene W. Cook, 92, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Miller’s Merry Manor,
Plymouth, IN.
Born on December 10, 1930, in LaPorte, Indiana, he was the son of Leonard C. and Berenice (Frasa)Cook.
He attended Knox High School graduating with the Class of 1948.
Known as extremely athletic, he excelled at basketball, football and track at Knox High School where he was voted into the Knox High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Attended Central Michigan University where he was co-captain of the track team.
An Eagle Scout earning the Bronze Palm.
On January 13, 1951, he married Joanne Anderson in Valparaiso, IN. They would both own and operate Cook’s Jewelry Store in Knox from 1951 to 1994 before retiring. Eugene was a Certified GIA Gemologist, Lapidarist and had traveled out of the country several times purchasing diamonds and gemstones.
Eugene was an Amateur Ham Radio operator coordinating emergency communications in peace and war for the US Navy.
Joanne preceded him in death on July 22, 2022.
For years Eugene and Joanne loved to ride their bicycles. They enjoyed traveling with their family and friends. It was not uncommon for Eugene to load up the girls in the station wagon and head out on snow skiing trips.
Masonic Lodge 639 rising to the level of 33rd Degree, Scottish Rite, Moose Lodge and former Knox City Councilman.
Being an avid golfer Eugene was a member of the Bass Lake Country Club in Knox and the Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth.
He is survived by his daughters: Laura (John) Gough of Plymouth; Gloria (Bob) Lorenz of Knox; Nancy (Will) King of Plymouth; grandchildren: John B. (Jamie) Gough II of Knox; Emma and Grace Lorenz of TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joanne.
No services will be held.
