Floyd L. Irwin

Floyd L. Irwin, 95, died on Sept. 9, 2001, at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he had lived since 1997, moving there from North Liberty, Ind. He was born on June 6, 1906, in North Township, Marshall County, to Riley E. and Rosa Ellen Berger Irwin. He attended schools in Teegarden and graduated from Walkerton High School in 1924. On Nov. 14, 1936, Floyd and Edith J. Shawhan of Pike County, Indiana, were married. They lived in Logansport and Plymouth prior to moving to Albuquerque. Edith died in 1981. Floyd worked for the Indiana Motor Bus Company as a driver and maintenance supervisor until 1962. After moving to New Mexico, he worked for the Sandia Corp. as an electronics technician until his retirement to his farm near Petersburg, Ind., in 1970. From 1972 to 1997, he was caretaker of his sister’s farm near North Liberty. Floyd was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He is survived by a son and a daughter. They are: James Irwin and his wife, Roberta, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Karla Cates and her husband, William of Albuquerque. A grandson, Vernon and Sunny Reaser, Phoenix, Ariz., and a granddaughter, Mindy and Arthur Ortega of Albuquerque also survive. One great-grandson, four great-granddaughters and a sister, Irene Stetler of Plymouth, survive as well. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse and by three brothers: Ralph, Jacob and Alfred. Three sisters, Hazel Williams, Beulah Starner and Clara Irwin have also died. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, Sept. 21, 2001 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services for Floyd will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Kreig, pastor of the Pretty Lake United Methodist Church will officiate.
