Bremen

Gary Shively, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Trail Point Village, South Bend, surrounded by his family.

Gary was born on February 27, 1943, in Warsaw, Indiana, to Merle and Elene (Hill) Shively. He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1961. On March 10, 1963, Gary married Judy Brocksmith at the Plymouth Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2024.

Gary worked for United Telephone Company for over 25 years as a cable splicer before retiring. Father, coach, and friend adequately describe a man who was outgoing, hardworking, whitty and loving. An avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to his grandkids' baseball and softball games, he was usually the first person at the ballpark, so he did not miss the pre-game warmups. He also enjoyed racing go-karts, working on cars, drag racing, and watching NASCAR.

He is survived by his son Steve (Holli) Shively of Bremen; daughter Kristi Hawkins of Mishawaka; grandchildren: Chelsea (Scott) Nichols of South Bend; Chad Hawkins of South Bend; Britni Hawkins of Mishawaka; Kaelyn Shively, Ashton Shively and Mikayla Shively of Bremen; great-grandchildren: Sophie Marshall, Seveada Nichols; sister Nerita (Bob) Brown of Warsaw.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, son-in-law Todd Hawkins, brother Dean (Martha) Shively, nephew Larry Brown, great niece Starli Brown, and great nephew Barney Brown.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10-11 am at the New Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, 1300 Chester Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Cory Fehr officiating.

Burial will take place in the New Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to the Marshall County Humane Society, P O Box 22, Plymouth, Indiana 46563.
