Gerhart C. Goldt

Gerhart C. “Gib” Goldt, 77, a resident of Marshall County most of his life, died at his residence, 11326 S. Michigan Rd., Plymouth, at 8:07 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2005. Gib died following an 11-year illness in the home where he had lived for over 41 years.

He was born in South Bend, Ind., on Feb. 22, 1928, the son of Rudolph C. and Ida M. Goldt and graduated from Tippecanoe High School with the class of 1946. Soon after school he joined the United States Army/Air Corps and was stationed in Korea and Okinawa.

On Feb. 14, 1953, in Tyner, he and Beverly J. Haag were married.

A member Local 150 of International Operating Engineers he was an expert backhoe operator and a master mechanic. He also worked for Weeks Motors, first as a mechanic and then as a Service Manager. While in semi-retirement he worked for Ridge Auto Parts.

An outdoorsman, Gib was a member of the Plymouth Conservation Club, the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and skeet shooting. He was an avid fisherman particularly on Mill Pond. He rode motorcycles and was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and a lover of cooking out with his family and friends.

Gib is survived by Beverly, his wife of fifty-three years and by their daughter, two sons, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His daughter is Kathleen M. Goldt, South Bend, and his sons are Herbert C. and Bonnie Goldt, Walkerton and Fredrick Goldt, Plymouth.

His grandson, Michael Z. Goldt lives in South Bend and his two granddaughters, Angela M. and Jessica S. Goldt both live in Walkerton, Ind.

Great grandchildren are Joshua, Matthew, Abbigail and Dominic.

A sister, Kahte Antonides, Milford, Ind., and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be welcomed by the family on Friday, May 27, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Family services will be held on Saturday, in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Special graveside ceremonies at New Oakhill Cemetery will be accorded to Gib by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marshall County Post 1162.
