Glenn Weidner

April 27, 1946 - October 11, 2021

Glenn A. Weidner, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Born on April 27, 1946 in Argos, Indiana he was the son of Paul A. and Mildred L. (Mann) Weidner. He attended Argos High School graduating with the class of 1964. He graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s degree in physical education and health.  He attended Indiana University, and Notre Dame where he received his Masters of Supervision in Secondary School Administration.

Glenn’s teaching career in PE/Health started at Plymouth Community Schools for many years.  He then utilized his school administration degree and became principal at Triton High School.  After 41 years of being an educator, he retired. Retirement did not come easy for Glenn.  He most recently was an elementary gym teacher at Allen Elementary school where his daughter taught kindergarten for Marion Community Schools and he worked as a teacher in the Plato lab at Marion High School where his son-in-law was principal.  He then went on to teach in Argos as the director of their Plato lab from 2018-2020.  He was an inspiration to so many students over the years! He loved helping ALL students! It was a huge accomplishment for Glenn to end his 45 years of education by being back at Argos High School which is where he graduated from in 1964.

He enjoyed photography, nature, working at Weidner’s Wide Acres cutting trees, mowing, painting and building decks among other things. He also enjoyed sunsets on the beach in Naples Florida and being on his pontoon boat at Winona Lake. You could say he was a mathematician who was always figuring numbers, he was an avid writer, and loved to collect things.  He absolutely loved all of his “grand” dogs and cats, especially Mosi and Millie.

Glenn left quite a legacy of helping others especially when it came to his students’ overcoming challenges that they were facing.  Glenn had a never give up and to keep moving forward attitude. He lived by the motto, “life is good all the time, some days are just better than others.”

He is survived by his children: Gina (Keith) Burke of Marion, IN; Glenn Weidner II of the Czech, Republic; brother Dennis (Nickie) Weidner of Plymouth; sisters: Dianne (Donald) Goeckel of Bay City, MI; Barb (Bob) Myers; grandchildren: John, Austin, Brianna, Alexandra and Hunter, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents Paul Weidner and William and Mildred DeFoe. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law Matthew Durbin, nephew Kurt Weidner and niece Erica Goeckel.

Per the wishes of the family a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Argos High School Dollars for Scholars, 410 N. First Street, Argos, IN 46501.

I am so shocked I feel like I just talked to Glenn on Facebook, then to read this today. My deepest condolences to his whole family. My husband Chuck Johnson (deceased 10-23-2020) was a Friend of Glenn’s too! They taught together, although Glenn was lots younger.
Love and Prayers to you all.

      Dear Mrs. Johnson,
Your husband taught my drivers ed class. He also was my driving instructor. He had me drive down a gravel road that was not used much (Tulip Road). When he decided that was a bad idea he made me turn around in the middle of the road! That’s a memory I will never forget. I’ve also never forgotten his kindness. The interesting thing is that Glenn Weidner also was my drivers ed teacher as they shared that responsibility. He also was very nice with us students. Peace to the memories of both of them! 💖💖

Kathy thank you for your message. It is always fun to hear of the drivers Ed classes. I’m so happy you remember my husband as a kind person. He truly was if you really got to know him. I knew the students got either Chuck or Mr. Weidner. I didn’t know Glenn back then. I seem to have gotten to know him better just talking to him on Facebook. I will miss his messages.

    To all family members,
My prayers are for you in this time of grief. Glenn was a great friend throughout our times working together at Triton and even after our retirements he stopped by my house to catch up on things going on in our lives. He always talked about his kids as I did with mine. He was a very caring person and I will miss him greatly.

Many years ago I worked as an Aide at Jefferson School where Glenn’s & My desk were in the hallway. What great stories were told. He always helped me with disciplinary problems. After this we remained friends and always were glad to see each other and share in other stories. He was always so upbeat and enjoying life. He will be missed by all his family and friends. Gina & Glenn you had a wonderful Dad. Share in the memories.

Many years ago Mr. Weidner and Mr. Johnson co-taught drivers education at Plymouth High School. I was one of their students. They both were most kind. None of the girls ignored the fact that Mr. Weidner (Glenn) was VERY handsome! I’m sure the differences he made in the lives of students throughout the years has made our world a better place. 💖

To Glenn’s family. At Triton Glenn and I did not always agree. But we always shared respect. And after we left Triton we became friends. He was always interested in acquiring my castoffs: grill, wheelbarrow, and adult tricycle. He was a great person and was so proud of his kids and grandkids. And he always asked about mine too. He leaves a wonderful legacy and will be greatly missed. Prayers for all of you.

Gina , my name is Terry Irwin , and Glenn and I were born the same week in the Kelly’s hospital in Argos. Our mothers became friends while there. We ended up living 4 houses apart on good old West Walnut Street. We grew up together and both went to Ball State to become teachers . Although we had different majors we did have 3 classes together. Our senior year we lived together in an off campus house. That was a wild time! I could go on but not now . Please contact me when you have his special day. I want to attend!! The funeral home has my e-mail address.. May God be with you during these difficult times.

    Gina & Glenn Alan

Sorry this is late getting to you. So sorry to hear of Glenn’s passing. Hope the suffering wasn’t too long nor awful. We never know. I remember when he taught at Plymouth and was so concerned about the poor kids in PE…he bought out of his own pocket, socks and under ware for some of them. He was a unique individual and so very intelligent.
I lost my dad when I was 30 years old. Sadly neither of my parents got to see any of the grand kids or found out how well their 4 children succeeded in life. So glad your dad got to enjoy his children and grand children and you all have so many memories to sustain you though your grieving. I will continue praying for all the family at this sad time. Concentrate on all the laughing times and his favorite songs. I remember he liked the Righteous Brothers songs. I even gave him a CD with their music. So I have fond memories too. God Bless
