Hazel M. Burns

September 23, 1914 — April 11, 2000

Hazel M. Burns, 85 of 928 S. Michigan Street Plymouth, died of natural causes at9:14 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.

A lifetime resident of Marshall County, she was born on September 23, l9l4 the daughter of Jesse and Lulu Whitesell Newman. Hazel graduated with the Plymouth Lincoln High School Class of 1934. On June 10th of that year she married Ford E. Burns, their wedding was held in the E.U.B. Church, Plymouth. Ford preceded her in death on August 2, 1982.

For 35 years Hazel worked with the United Telephone Co. of Plymouth and retired as a trouble clerk. She continued to enjoy the company of her co-workers by attending retiree dinners and gatherings. For over 60 years she was a proud member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Plymouth. There she sang in the choir, was a member of the Mary and Martha Club and Band of Hope Class. Hazel also held membership in the Plymouth Eastern Star Chapter 26.

Hazel loved her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their different activities.

Survivors include three daughters; twins, Mary S. (Willis) Burroughs of Argos and Betty Lou (Merle) Yockey of Ft. Wayne, along with Peggy Jean (Del) Fast of Westlake, Texas. Four grandchildren; Michael D. (Sandy) Bunoughs of Plymouth, James W. (Donna) Bunoughs of Argos, Cindy Sue Klee of Ft. Wayne, and Todd A. (Tavia) Fast of Denver, Colorado, along with 7 great-grandchildren also survive, as well as three brothers and four sisters. A sister-in-law, Thelma Collins of Plymouth also survives.

Friends are invited to visit with the family ftom2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday,  April 14, 2000 in the Johnson – Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, and one hour prior to funeral services to be held at I p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2000 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 425 S. Michigan St., Plymouth. Pastor Maurice Grindle will officiate the service.

Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
