Hilda E. Stockman

September 29, 1923 — May 17, 2025

Plymouth

Hilda E. Stockman, 101, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025 at Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth. Born on September 29, 1923 in Lauterbach, Germany, she was the daughter of Konrad and Anna (Zimmerman) List.

Hilda met Dwight L. Stockman during his deployment in World War II. They were married in Germany on February 18, 1950. Their love story would span the course of almost 50 years before he preceded her in death on September 1, 1992. Through the years, Hilda worked as a dedicated homemaker, raising their children, Steve, Pam, and Jeff. Later in life, she worked as a cashier at a local market and made milkshakes at the restaurant next door. She also worked in housekeeping at the Holiday Inn.

With the heart of the home in the kitchen, Hilda lovingly prepared meals for her family. Some of her recipes that will be fondly remembered were Herring Salad, Sauerkraut, and German Dumplings. She was a crafty person, enjoying knitting various projects and sewing clothes for the children. When she wasn’t caring for her family, she enjoyed playing card games and listening to polka music; pastimes that carried on throughout her life.

Hilda was an animal lover at heart and had her sweet kitty Louie at home with her until her health would no longer allow. She will be remembered for her feisty personality that carried her through life; giving her 101 years of memories with her family.

Hilda is survived by her children, Steve (Karen) Stockman, Pam (Cecil) Wilson, and Jeff (Jenny) Stockman; grandchildren, Christina, Ashley, Steve, Jamie (Elena), Nicole (Chad), Stephanie, and Heather; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Konrad and Anna; husband, Dwight; and sisters, Louisa and Marianna.

A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Marshall County Humane Society. PO Box 22, Plymouth, IN 46563.

The Stockman Family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the team at Pilgrim Manor and Traditions Hospice for the care they provided to their family.

Dear Mom, your legacy of love and strength will forever inspire us. Love, Steve, Pam and Jeff.
