James M. Campbell, 94, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024 at Autumn Trace in Plymouth. He was born on November 23, 1929 in Chicago, IL. At the age of 16, James’s grandparents, James and Martha (Martin) Campbell adopted him.
James attended Hanover College, graduating in 1951. He went on to attend McCormick Theological Seminary College in Chicago and started his ministry. A man of true faith, he served others through the Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. Most recently, James attended the United Church of Christ in Plymouth as long as his health allowed.
In addition to his ministry, James worked with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in their Search and Rescue Division. His skills as a scuba diver and private pilot were invaluable in this role. James served as the president of the Menominee Mussel Loaders; a hobby that he greatly enjoyed. James was also a 33rd Degree Mason.
Known as Kandu the Magician, James was a talented magician and hypnotist. It brought him joy to see the wonder that magic brought to others. His ornery personality was the perfect fit when he was performing.
James is survived by his children, Deborah Hecht of Logansport, Teresa Sweeney of Arizona, and James R. Campbell of Arizona; 5 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha and his wife, Melinda.
