James “Jim” E. Denney

August 20, 1953 - July 18, 2023

James “Jim” E. Denney, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at his home in Plymouth. He was known as a quiet, reserved man that had a huge heart for so many. He was great with his hands and could fix just about anything he set his mind to. His strong work ethic was one his greatest attributes and highly admired by his children.

Born on August 20, 1953 in Washington Courthouse, Ohio to Floyd and Doris (Merritt) Denney. He attended Plymouth High School, graduating with the class of 1971. Through mutual high school friends, he met Kathryn (Donaldson) and they were married on June 9, 1973 in Plymouth. Though this relationship wasn’t permanent, they did raise three children and remained friends afterwards.

Jim worked diligently as a child to earn the family business, Denney and Company. He would show up after school each day learning how to handle the books, payroll, etc. Jim was also an electrician by trade, he would later work at Lowes in the electrical department.

He enjoyed watching Nascar, golfing and the rendezvous with his comrades at the local American Legion. Jim was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #27, and a Charter member of the Plymouth Elks Lodge #2548.

He is loved and will be missed by many. Jim is survived by his children: Jason (Imelda) Denney of Plymouth; Corey (Marla) Denney of East Grand Forks, MN; Kristina (Nicholas) Pitts of Hamlet; fiancé Debbie Davis of Plymouth; brother Michael Denney of Grovertown; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Doris, infant brother Robert, brother Richard and granddaughter Nevaeh Denney.

Per the wishes of the family a Celebration of Life will take place at the American Legion Post 27, 1040 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN 46563 on Sunday August 6th, beginning at 1:00 PM.
