John W. Dietl, 82, passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2026 at his home. Born on October 23, 1943 in Argos, IN, John was the son of Sennett “Pete” Dietl and Fern Kathryn Smith.

After graduating from high school, John proudly served in the United States Army. He went on to marry Pamela Wagoner on June 19, 1970 and they would have one son from their union, John David Dietl. Pamela preceded him in death on July 19, 2005.

John held a dedicated career that spanned more than 40 years in maintenance at the TreeHouse Foods pickle factory. In his free time, John collected Fenton Glass among other antiques. He also enjoyed magnet fishing. In his younger years, John was an avid arrowhead hunter and trapper.

Those who knew John will remember him for his patient, easy-going personality. He was the family jokester who loved to make those around him laugh. John had a big heart and would go out of his way to help those in need.

John married Margarette Vendola on March 21, 2009 where he gained his step-children, Theresa, Earl and Robert. They would celebrate nearly 15 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 14, 2024.

John is survived by his son, John “Dave” (Tera) Dietl and their children, Zachary and Drew; step-children, Theresa, Deno, and Bobby Marzean and their children, Benji and Emily; along with great-grandchild, Kenzie. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Mora.

He is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Pamela; 2nd wife, Margarette; parents, “Pete” and Fern; and step-grandson, Cameron Lawton.
