John E. Caine, 57, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the University of Chicago Hospital in Illinois.
Born on November 14, 1965 in Plymouth, Indiana he was the son of Wally and Marcia (Conway) Caine. He attended Plymouth High School graduating with the class of 1984 where he starred in athletics in football, wrestling and track. John received a football scholarship to Manchester University and played for a year before transferring to Purdue University where he received his Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision with the class of 1989.
John was introduced by his brother Andrew to Cheryl Rodgers while dining in at Balloon Works Restaurant and the rest was history. They were married on December 11, 1993 at First United Methodist Church and had their vows recognized at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Fondly known as “Caino”, “J.C.” and Johno by all that knew him well. John worked as a Production Manager, General Manager, Operations Manager, and Regional Sales Representative for various wood product companies. Loving, caring, outgoing are just a few words that describe John. He possessed a great, quick witted, sense of humor with just a “little “ sarcasm thrown in. John always had a nickname(s) for his family members and friends. His loyalty and devotion to his family and friends was something that was nothing but short of amazing, always being present, supportive, and willing to help.
John loved music, history, cooking food and was somewhat of a grill master. An avid sports fan that enjoyed a round of golf or watching the Chicago Bears, New York Yankees and of course his beloved Purdue Boilermakers. John and Cheryl enjoyed a good tailgate party in West Lafayette with family and friends. Family vacations were extremely important to him as he was never afraid to experience and try new things.
He was a member of the Purdue Reamer Club where he served as president, pledge trainer, and pilot of the Boiler Maker Special. John was a 10 year 4-H member and a member of the Masonic Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge #149.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Caine of Plymouth; son Colin Caine of Vancouver, WA; daughter Meghan Caine of Indianapolis; sister Melissa Christiansen of Plymouth; brother Andrew (Heather) Caine of Westfield, IN; mother-in-law Susan (Ken) Rodgers of Plymouth; as well as several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law Mel Rodgers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 2-6 pm at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 pm.
Visitation will resume on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will immediately follow with Life Celebrant James Smart Officiating.
Burial will take place in the New Oak Cemetery, Plymouth.

I worked with John in Lexington, North Carolina. Loved the man! He was a football friend who tried to give me a hard time about my Packers! Shared quite a few laughs. I’m sure he will win every game as he waits for us heaven. God be with you all during your time of mourning. Know that this man touched my heart and I’m thankful to have known him!
