John R. Shireman

July 10, 1922 — August 30, 2005

A Marshall County resident all of his life, moving from Argos to Plymouth in 1950, Richard John Shireman, 83, died at 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth.

John was born in Rochester, Ind. on July 10, 1922. He was the son of John W. and Bessie Jane Smith Shireman.

He attended Plymouth Schools.

In June, 1985, John and Glea Shireman were married in Plymouth.

John was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Post and the Plymouth Moose Lodge.

John was employed by the Studebaker Corp. for 17 years and then worked for the City Water Dept. for 6 years. He retired in 1978 as the Garage Foreman for the Indiana Dept. of INDOT.

He loved all kinds of old cars –but his all-time favorite was, naturally, the Studebaker, which he knew and was familiar with from stem to stern.

He also liked to play Old Maid with the grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Glea and three sons. They are Reg and Dorothy Shireman, Monticello, Ind.; Larry Shireman, Washington, D.C. and Michael Shireman, Plymouth.

Six grandchildren survive as well. They are: Cheryl and Douglas Colliver; John S. and Rebecca Shireman, Jeff Shireman, Michael Shireman, Richard and Kris Shireman, David and Jodi Shireman.

John is survived by three brothers and four sisters. The brothers are: John Dale Shireman, Osceola, Ind.; Charles A. Shireman, Rochester, Ind.; Donald and Nancy Shireman, Cottonwood, Ariz.

His sisters are: Mary Mitchell, Rochester, Ind., Joan and George Davis, Osceola, Ind; Patricia Hayden, Rochester, Ind; and Jean and Ray Ketcham, Orland, Ind.

John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Harold Shireman, Marion Shireman, Carol Shireman and one sister Barbara Knight.

Friends will be welcomed to celebrate John’s life on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Greg Bouck, associate pastor of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, will be held immediately after visitation in the funeral home.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
