Joyce Ilene Lawrence, 87, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth. Born on July 22, 1938 at Plymouth Parkview Hospital, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Willard and Dorothy (Taylor) Lawrence.
After earning her bachelor’s degree from DePauw University, Joyce worked as a dedicated teacher for over thirty years. During her tenure with the Fort Wayne School District, she taught music education to high school students before transferring to special education. Joyce’s gentle nature shone through in her love of animals, especially with kitties. Her musical talents were exemplified in playing the French horn. When she had time away, Joyce made memories of traveling with her college friends and particularly enjoyed traveling to Europe with her parents.
Those who had an opportunity to know Joyce knew that she was a great listener and was incredibly intelligent. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by her brother, William (Dixie) Lawrence; nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Tammy, and Kevin; along with her great-nephew, Isaac. Joyce will also be missed by her longtime friend, Donna Fidler.
