Juanita Darlene Scarborough

February 5, 1938 - March 26, 2022

Juanita “Nita” Darlene Scarborough, 84, was embraced by her heavenly father on the morning of March 26, 2022, while surrounded by her beloved family and friends. There to meet her at the pearly gates was the love of her life, her late husband Robert Lee Scarborough.

On the morning of February 05, 1938, Nita was born as the 4th child of Wallace and Virgie Adine Peregrine at Parkview Hospital in Plymouth, Indiana. She enjoyed a simple childhood, having grown up in a loving family with sisters Betty Cox (Dale deceased), Margarete Ann “Fuzz” Cramer (Kenny deceased), Sally (deceased at birth), and brothers Dave Peregrine (deceased) and Mary Ann, and Wally Peregrine (Marge deceased).

Upon graduation from Lincoln High School in May of 1956, she spent a short amount of time working as a switchboard operator for the local telephone company. As a young adult and throughout her and Robert’s life together, Nita fostered a natural aptitude and passion for oil painting. Natural landscapes were a particular favorite subject of hers.

Loving members of the Scarborough family who welcomed her with open arms include Lu Scarborough (Larry deceased), Richard Winkler (Jean deceased), Terry Scarborough (Dawn Scarborough), Linda Bachert (Louie), Carol Soltis (Tom), and Deloris Freet (Jim deceased).

The warmth, kindness and comfort that Nita exuded rivaled that of the sugar cookies that she spent countless snowy December afternoons baking and decorating with her grandchildren.

She lived for the days spent alongside Robert tending their shared garden, with grandchildren following as they picked the ripest of the strawberries. For feeling the cool, freshly hung sheets as she joined her grandchildren in running through them. For the weekly Sunday afternoon feasts in which her children and grandchildren would gather around the dining room table to laugh and talk while enjoying her homemade meals. For walks along the Panama City Beach boardwalk, mesmerized by the vastness and beauty of the Gulf of Mexico, and for the hours spent shopping the aisles of Hobby Lobby with Aunt Lu, her partner in crime and the Thelma to her Louise.

Most of all, however, she lived for God. In spending the beginning and concluding minutes in deep conversation with her Lord and Savior, Nita was able to live every second of her day under the influence of God’s everlasting grace. She spent the time that God so graciously granted her to ensure that her children and grandchildren would foster the same relationship with God. We are so grateful for her immense love and the countless wonderful memories of her that are simply immeasurable. Her grace, contagious laughter, quick wit, and heart that holds so much love for her family and friends will live forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Scarborough, her favorite son-in-law Dave Harrell, parents Wallace and Adine Peregrine and Florence and David Scarborough.

She is survived by her three children: son Jeff Scarborough, son Robert “Bobby” Scarborough (Deb), and daughter Darlene Harrell, grandchildren Darrah Scarborough, Dylan Scarborough, Shelby Harrell, Noah Harrell (Gabby Hylton), Tyler Sutch and great grandchild Kayden Shumaker.

Visitation will be held on Saturday April 02, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Plymouth Baptist Church, 11345 9A Road, Plymouth with service to follow at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow in the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Plymouth Baptist Church or Kindred Hospice 1476 W. 18th Street, Rochester, IN 46975.

Caryn Durski, Funeral Director
