Judith Ann Currens

August 14, 1940 — March 20, 2024

Judith Ann (Judi) Currens,83, left this earth on March 20, 2024, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Raymond Eugene and Julianna Thompson of Gary, IN. At age 19, her father married Mary Becchino. Mary stepped into her life and had a positive impact on her life.  The Becchino family welcomed Judi as one of their own. Judi graduated from Merrillville High School in 1957, attended IU School of Nursing for one year, then she returned home. Shortly after returning home, Judi met the love of her life Joseph Lee (Joe) Currens of Burr Oak, IN in 1959.They were married on December 30, 1960, at Saint Thomas in Knox, IN. They shared a wonderful union that was an inspiration to all that knew them. Joe and Judi were actively involved in many organizations throughout their community of Culver, Indiana. If you were ever blessed by them, then you know of their heartfelt generosity, 

Their union produced three children all of whom survive her, Susan (James II) Daugherty of Plymouth, IN, Lorraine (David) Lapadat of Winamac, IN and Joseph (Anthony) of Walton, IN. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Raymond (Ray) (Linda) Thompson, Portage, MI and Niece Marsha (Chuck) Mott of Montgomery, AL and cousins, nieces and nephews from the Currens and Thompson families. 

Judi was preceded in death by her father Raymond Eugene (Gene) Thompson, her mother Julianna Sum, and stepmother, Mary Thompson. Her infant brother Robert (Bobby), Her husband Joseph (Joe) L Currens. Father and mother in laws Russell (Buss) and Goldie Currens,her brother and sister in law Robert ( Bob) and Norma Gene Mc Ginnis of Panama City Beach, FL and her niece Jennifer McGinnis of Panama City Beach, FL.

Judi delighted in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She immersed herself in their lives by attending their school and sporting activities. Her grandchildren are James William (Wil) (Laura) Daugherty III of North Judson, IN, Hannah Marie (Evan) Pohl of Kokomo, IN, Arthur David (A.D.) Lapadat of Beech Grove, IN and Caroline Grace (Donavan) Price of Trafalgar, IN. The sunshine of her life were her five great-granddaughters Cricket & Crysta Valentine, Yavonna Daugherty, Aspen Pohl and Aubrey Price. Hannah and Evan are expecting another child this fall. Judi was delighted by this news.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth.

A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 9:30 am at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 124 College Ave. Culver, IN.  Mass of the Christian Burial will immediately follow with Fr. Stephen Felicichia officiating.

Burial will take place in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Culver. 

Memorial contributions may be given to Culver Community Schools, 700 School Street, Culver, IN 46511 or to the Culver Community Food Pantry, 307 N. Plymouth, Street, Culver, IN 46511.

The family wishes that all floral tributes be made through Cashen Creek Florist in Plymouth, Indiana.  Any monetary donations in her memory should be made to Culver Community Schools or to your local food bank. The Currens Family wishes to express their gratitude to her Heart-to-Heart Hospice, Mishawaka, for their loving care and support of the passing of our mother, Judi. The outpouring of support from our family and dear friends has been a true blessing.
