Linda S. Verhaeghe, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 after a courageous battle since February of 2024 with Glioblastoma. Linda was born to Anthony and Laurene (Gilbert) Gunterman on July 1, 1945 in Plymouth.
She was united in marriage with the love of her life, Leon R. Verhaeghe, on June 6, 1964 in the 1st wedding held at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen. They lovingly raised their children, Jeff, Jason, and Jessica; and they eagerly accepted the role of grandparents as their family grew. Family & faith was at the heart of what Linda cherished the most.
Linda was a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Plymouth, along with the Tyner IOOF Rebecca’s. She was also involved with the Marshall County Fair for several years, serving as the 4-H Secretary. She thrived on attending all of her grandchildren’s various 4-H events. Linda leaves behind a legacy filled with love and service to others.
Linda graduated from Bremen High School in 1964. Working as a secretary in the Extension Office, she dedicated 27 years to her role before retiring in 2009. Linda found solace working in her flower garden, watching the new start come each Spring and caring for them through the warm summer months. Linda loved their family farm and the many memories made over the years; she always looked forward to helping her family during harvest.
Linda was a very independent person. In her free time, Linda loved to cook and bake, always wanting to make sure her family was fed. She enjoyed listening to Elvis and even took her family on a special trip to Graceland. During football season, you could find Linda watching the Notre Dame game on Saturdays and eagerly waiting for Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs to play throughout the week.
Linda is survived by her children, Jeff (Dana) Verhaeghe, Jason (Dawn) Verhaeghe, and Jessica (John) Bryan; grandchildren, Katilyn (Brett) Slack, Kelsey (Jared) Wardlaw, Kyle (Kristen) Verhaeghe, Klay (Morgan) Verhaeghe, Kayleigh (Ashton) Moore, Klynt Verhaeghe, Haley ( Austin) Huff, Taylor Verhaeghe, Hunter (Raelyne) Verhaeghe, Seth (Claire) Verhaeghe, Morgan (Jared) Whiteside, and Megan (Hank) Pegg; great-grandchildren, Breelyn, Kasenn, Kayden, Kolton, Kamden, Matthew, Mitchell, Michael, Payton, Paige, Wrenley, Riley, Wyatt, Virginia, Huntlee, LeighAnne, and Liaham.
