Lois E. Stewart

October 20, 1912 — September 21, 2000

Lifetime Bourbon resident, Lois E. Stewart, 87, 309 W. Center St., died at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2000, in the home of her daughter Dixie.  Lois died of natural causes following a short illness.

She was born in Bourbon on October 20, 1912, the daughter of Charles E. and Orda L. Baker Elkins.  She graduated from Bourbon High School in the Class of 1930.

On February 2, 1936, in Angola, Indiana, Lois and Roy W. Stewart were married.  Roy died on April 29, 1955.

Until her husband’s death, Lois was a homemaker. After he died, she worked as a bookkeeper at Wayne Love Motors, a Hudson dealer in Bourbon.  She also worked at Plymouth TV, and Lawmaster Pontiac.

In her sixties, she decided to change careers and successfully completed her studies at Ivy Tech to be a Nurses Aid.  She worked at Parkview Hospital, retiring in 1983 at the age of 70.

Civic-minded, she served on the Bourbon Town Board.

Lois enjoyed reading the Bible.  She loved to crochet, knit and work crossword puzzles.  She played the piano and was the church organist at the Bourbon E.U.B. church for many years where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Guild.

Lois is survived by four daughters and a son.  Her daughters are: Judy R. and Marshall Price, Bourbon, Suzanne “Susie” and Ronald Price, Jr., Altus, Oklahoma: Dixie L. Lingle, and L. Elese and Bryan Emond, all of Plymouth.  Her son is Marvin L. and Sue Stewart, Cooper City, Florida.

Fourteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren also survive together with two sisters and a brother: Betty Redman and Jane and Gene Pesch, all of Plymouth, and Joseph and Phyllis Elkins, Lakeview, Ohio.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Mary Corl Elkins, a step-mother, and two brothers, Max and Donald “Buck” Elkins,

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, September 24, 2000, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the JOHNSON-DANIELSON FUNERAL HOME, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2000, in the funeral home.  The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Pretty Lake United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Parks Cemetery, Bourbon.
