Mack Johnson, Jr.

Lifetime area resident, Mack Johnson, Jr., affectionately called “Junior,” died at 6:54 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2003. Junior died, following a heart related illness at his residence, 14735 4B Road, Plymouth. He was 75 years old. Born the son of Mack Tenant and Myrtle Huffer Johnson, in Plymouth, Ind., on October 9, 1927, Mack attended Tyner schools. He served his country during W.W. I.I., as a member of the United States Navy. On July 26, 1947, in Plymouth, Junior and Ethel F. Samuels were married. He worked at Indiana Tool as a tool and die maker for many years, retiring in 1990. An avid fisherman and hunter, Junior enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers. He was an outdoorsman and appreciated nature. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid and devoted reader of the Bible, he attended Sunrise Chapel. Junior is survived by Ethel, his wife of 55 years and by their children: two daughters and a son. They are Sheila Berry, Hot Springs, Ark., and Roger “Jim” and Vonda Johnson and Pamela and Rick Jones, all of Plymouth. Ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive together with a brother, Glen and Dorothy Johnson, Alaska and a sister, Irene Wallace, Plymouth, Ind. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Tommy and Pat Johnson and two sisters: Virginia Gibson and Elaine Ringle. A grandson, Richard Ritenour and a great-granddaughter, Cheyanna Jackson have also died before him. Visitation will be on Monday, March 24, 2003, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Rustin Krapfl, pastor of the Sunrise Chapel, will follow visitation in the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. Military graveside rites at the Tyner Cemetery, Tyner, Ind., by the Plymouth VFW Post 1162, will honor Junior and his commitment to his country. Memorial gifts in Junior’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Hospice or the Ronald McDonald House.
