Mae E. Burke Mcshane

November 18, 1897 — January 26, 2000

Mae E. Burke McShane, born on November 18, 1897, in County Cook, Ireland, the daughter of John L. and Nell Ellen Forde Sullivan, died at 7:12 p.m., on Wednesday, January 26, 2000, in the Catherine Kasper Home in Donaldson.

One hundred and two years old, Mae was one of the rare individuals to have lived in three centuries.  She came to this country from Ireland as a four-year-old child.  The family settled in Chicago where Mae graduated from high school and was a member of Old St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

A homemaker, she was first married to Al Burke who preceded her in death.  Her second husband was John J. McShane who has also died.

Mae is survived by two daughters, Marilyn O’Brien, Brookfield, Wisconsin and Patricia Miller, Boston, Massachusetts.

Six grandchildren also survive.  They are: Mary Pat Birits, Casey O’Brien, Lynn Chandak, Julia Miller, Nancy Levin and Stephen Miller.  Seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Nephews and nieces include: Jack Driscol and Jack and Warren Sullivan along with Sr. Kathleen Quinn PHJC.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and two sisters, Helen Sullivan and Ann Ross.

Friends may call from 4:30 – 9p.m. EST on Friday, January 28, 2000, at the Catherine Kasper Chapel in Donaldson. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel.  Father Ed Konerman will officiate.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum, 87th and Hamlin Ave., Evergreen Park, Ill.

The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial gifts in Mae’s memory may be made to the Poor Hand Maids of Jesus Christ Ministry Fund.
