Marcia L. Snyder

July 1, 1926 - May 10, 2000
In Memorial

Marcia Lou Snyder, 73, a LaPaz area resident since 1950, coming from Shipshewana, Ind., has died.

She finished her journey and the Lord called Marcia home at 7:45 a.m., when, at her residence, 13010 W. 1st Rd., Lakeville, she died from a sudden heart attack.

Born on July 1, 1926 in LaGrange, Ind., she was the daughter of Orla O. and Bessie Nelson Hostetler.  She graduated Valedictorian in her 1944 class of Shipshewana High School.  In 1947 she received her nursing cap and was Valedictorian of her class at the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Mishawaka.  She served all three years as class treasurer.

On February 11, 1950, in South Bend, she and Ray L. Snyder were married.

Marcia was a nurse in Bremen’s Community Hospital for 26 years, retiring in June of 1986.  She served as Director of Nurses for 18 years.  She was a member of the American Nursing Association and the Indiana State Nurses Association.

She loved to read and work crossword puzzles.  She was an accomplished seamstress and cook and enjoyed baking. She played piano and raised lovely flowers in her well-tended garden.  Entertaining dinner guests was a favorite thing to do and foremost of all, she was a devoted wife and concerned mother to her children.

A 20-year member of the Nappanee First Church of God, she was active with the “We Help Others” Sunday School and the Nap-N-Ease, Seniors Group of the Church.  A former member of the LaPaz First Community Church of God she was involved with the Sunday school department.

Marcia is survived by her husband of fifty years, a son, Dean R. Snyder, Ashley, Ind., and two daughters, Pam J. and Terry Garber of Bristol and Deb K. Snyder of Goshen.

Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive together with several nieces and nephews.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and a three-day-old daughter, Jean Fay Snyder, Dean’s twin sister. Two sisters, Susanna Boggs and Bernis Hostetler have also died.

Friends may visit with the family today Thursday, May 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services for Marcia will be conducted by the Rev. Bradley Kendall, pastor of the Nappanee First Church of God and the Rev. Mike VanDeVoorde, pastor of the LaPaz First Community Church of God.  The funeral will be held in the LaPaz First Community Church of God at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2000, where friends may call one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in Fair Cemetery, northwest of LaPaz.

Memorial gifts in Marcia’s memory may be made to the Nappanee or the LaPaz Church of God.
