Maria E. Van Vactor passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Maria was born June 26, 1952, in Edinburg, TX to Federico & Margarita Chavez.

On February 24, 1973, she married Stephen Van Vactor. Together they raised their four children. Family was what she cherished most in her life. During the summer months she enjoyed having her family and friends out to their home on Pretty Lake. She and Steve spent the winter months in their home in Ft. Myers. She always looked forward to going and spending time with their amazing friends that they made there.

Maria is survived by her husband Steve, daughters, Jessica (Wesley)Harness of Plymouth, Jennifer (Kristin Pothier) Van Vactor of Columbus, and Stacy Van Vactor-Keenan (Erik)of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Libby Van Vactor-Keenan (Tristan Reed), Landon Harness, Madilyn Harness, Harper Pothier-Van Vactor, & Alexis Pothier-Van Vactor; and two great grandchildren Kinsley and Parker Reed. Also surviving are her brothers Oscar Chavez of Plymouth, Federico Chavez Jr, Jose Chavez, Rodolfo (Mary)Chavez, Jesus Chavez, Rolando (Gloria)Chavez all of Weslaco and sisters Rosalva (Leo)Saldana, Elvira (Guillermo)Cuellar, and Imelda(Lico)Lopez of Weslaco. She is also survived by her in-laws David & Christine Van Vactor, Edward & Patricia Wright, and David Miller and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Van Vactor, in-laws Harold & Marjorie Van Vactor, sister-in-laws Sylvia Chavez, Janie Chavez, Barbara Miller, Judy Van Vactor, brother-in-law Gary Van Vactor and nephew Nathan Chavez.

Per her wishes, there will be no service.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Ounce of Prevention Scholarship Fund ℅ Marshall County Community Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
