Marian Paton

Marian J. Paton, 74, a lifetime Marshall County resident, living in Garden Court East, 501 Pennsylvania Ave., Plymouth, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver, on Sunday, May 29, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. Marian was born in Plymouth on March 29, 1931. She was the daughter of Vern and Mabel M. Barber Dipert. She graduated from Plymouth High School in the class of 1949 and received an Associate’s Degree in Dietetics from Michigan State University.

She would first marry Robert V. Schultz who resides in Mishawaka and was later married to Richard Paton in December of 1964, in Plymouth. Richard died in July of 1974.

Marian was a Dietetic Technician at Parkview Hospital and then, for 17 years, worked in housekeeping at Ancilla Domini’s Katherine Kasper Home in Donaldson. She retired in April of 1996.

She was a bird watcher and enjoyed feeding them, some from her own hand. She loved to cook and bake and even enjoyed fishing with her family. That was her biggest joy – being with her family and playing games with her grandchildren.

Marian was a lifetime member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her four children and spouses, daughter Janice and Rick Hite of Plymouth, sons; Mark and Shannon Schultz, Overland Park, KS., Ron and JoAnn Schultz and Rich and Amy Paton, all of Plymouth.

Six granddaughters and three grandsons are also survive, they are: Melissa Bixel, Melanie (Matt) Brown, Anthony Schultz, Katy Schultz, Kyle Schultz, Haley Paton, Hunter Paton, Melinda Schultz and Rhonda Schultz.

Two sisters: Betty and husband Carl Coplen, Avon Park, Fla., and Ruth and husband Don Anders, Plymouth, survive together with two brothers: Paul Dipert, Plymouth and Gail and wife Jan Dipert, Wellston, Mich. along with a sister-in-law Jean Dipert of Plymouth and several nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, one sister, Maxine Thomas and four brothers: Dean, Richard “Bud”, Robert and Roger Dipert.

Friends will be welcomed by the family on Wednesday, June 1, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Services for Marian will follow visitation at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. David Kerkove, pastor of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, will officiate.

Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
