Marie A. Traversa

October 14, 1915 - December 22, 2000
In Memorial

Marie A. Traversa, 85, died, following an extended illness, at 1:40 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2000, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.

            Born in Chicago on October 14, 1915, she was the daughter of William and Mary (McKenna) Hanrahan.  She graduated from a Chicago high school and attended business college for two years.

            On June 19, 1943, in Chicago, Marie and Thomas Traversa were married.  He preceded her in death on September 6, 1963.

            She was a homemaker and worked as a reservation secretary for various hotels in the Chicago area.

            She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.  A poet, she loved to write verse.

            Marie is survived by four daughters and five sons.  The daughters and their spouses are: Patricia and Roger Garbers, Plymouth, Lucille and George Harris, Port Orange, Fla., Mary and John Willett, West Chicago, Ill., and Elizabeth and Don Kelly, Carol Stream, Ill.  Her sons and their wives are: Thomas and Tammy Traversa, Plymouth, Gerald and Jan Traversa, Pulaski, Wis., William and Debbie Traversa, Plainfield, Ill., James and Janet Traversa, Plainfield, Ill., and Michael and Clara Traversa, LaGrange, Ill.

            Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive together with two sisters, Regina Condor, LaGrange, Ill., and Catherine and Edward Thomas, Hickory Hills, Ill.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister.

            Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, December 28, 2000, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST in the Hursen Funeral Home, 4001 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Ill. (708) 547-8200.  Funeral services will follow visitation in the funeral home.

            Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Ill.

            The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, is in charge of local arrangements.
