Mark Allen Overmyer

July 17, 1951 - September 12, 2023

Mark Allen Overmyer, 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in Apopka, Florida.

Mark was born on July 17, 1951 in Plymouth, Indiana to Barbara and Dale Overmyer. Following his passion for weather events, Mark received his Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology from Purdue’s College of Science in 1973. He later went on to establish himself as a self-made successful businessman by founding and running his own logistics company, Marcair Incorporated, in Central Florida for 32 years.

On August 5, 1978, Mark married Candy Jeanne Hayden in Lakewood, Ohio. They embodied the perfect loving and devoted partnership together for almost 42 years until Candy’s passing on March 3, 2020. Mark went above and beyond to find the best care for Candy when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and given only a 10% chance to live. Mark put his family first and found the best doctors in the nation to treat Candy. Through his unwavering determination and love, Mark helped Candy prove doctors wrong when she lived another 14 years, reaffirming their lifelong commitment to one another and renewing their vows on a family trip to the historic Rosario on Orcas Island, Washington in 2018.

Mark was also a devoted father and grandfather. He and his family put down roots in Central Florida in 1988, eventually moving to their longtime family home on Lake Brantley in Longwood, Florida in 1993. He and Candy had three wonderful (now-grown) children together, Chris, Brandon, and Karly. He and Candy were also blessed with two darling granddaughters, Emma and Abigail, by Karly and her husband Tim.

Mark found great joy in natural wonders, athleticism, and was fascinated by the weather and hurricanes. Thus, he enjoyed boating, and served as a skilled Sea Captain for his family on their many maritime trips on Lake Brantley and family pilgrimages to the Gulf of Mexico. Mark equally loved the snow and terrain as he did the water and was an avid skier and runner. Mark achieved a lifelong goal by running the New York Marathon in 1996 with Candy. Mark’s desire to share his passions and love of travel inspired many memorable family boating vacations and ski vacations around North America.

Mark’s ability to fix anything, his unyielding work ethic, passion for life, and love for his family are only a few of his unforgettable qualities that he shared with those around him. Unfortunately, after Candy’s passing, Mark began to face, and eventually succumbed to his own tumultuous battle with an unknown neurological disease. Mark and Candy were devoted Christians who are now reunited together in love for eternity in Heaven with Jesus Christ.

Mark is survived by his three children, Chris, Brandon (Fiancée: Kimia), Karly (Spouse: Tim), granddaughters, Emma and Abigail Furtado, his father, Dale Overmyer, and his sister, Pamela Overmyer, of Apopka, Florida.

A ceremony to honor Mark’s life will be held at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana, officiated by Brandon Overmyer. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM followed by services at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Interment will be at Burr Oak Cemetery immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a direct donation to The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research
