Mary Elizabeth Karn

August 22, 1910 — March 19, 2001

Mary Elizabeth Karn, 90, a native of North Manchester and former Plymouth resident has died.  Mary died of natural causes at 11:40 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001 in the Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester, Indiana, where she and her husband have resided since 1995.

Mary was born on August 22, 1910 in North Manchester, the daughter of Gilford and Amy Kiston Blickenstaff.  She graduated from Laketon High School and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  As a nurse she worked a period of time for St. Joseph Hospital of Ft. Wayne and then St. Mary’s Hospital of Saginaw, Michigan.

On September 16, 1940 in Milton, Kentucky she was married to Claude M. Karn, he survives.  Together they resided in LaPorte, Indiana prior to their move to Plymouth in 1976.  As residents of Plymouth she and her husband were members of the First Presbyterian Church.  In 1995 they decided to make the Peabody Retirement Center their permanent home.

Mary had the experience of traveling in Europe with her spouse of sixty years.  She also enjoyed needlework and euchre with friends.

She is survived by her husband and one son, Thomas Karn of Atlanta, Georgia.

Friends may call at the Johnson – Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, on Wednesday morning, March 21, 2001 from 9 – 11 a.m.  Visitation will also be held Wednesday afternoon from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Peabody Home Chapel, 400 W. 7

Street, North Manchester, Indiana.  Funeral services in the Peabody Chapel will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Schmeiser, Peabody Home Chaplain and the Rev. Steven M. Mullin, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Plymouth officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, Indiana.

Memorial gifts in Mary’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth or the Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester.
